While I was sitting innocently during the beginning of my AP Stats class, a fire was raging in my backyard. I first heard the story when I asked my mom why the car smelled funny (a.k.a. like smoke) after school. It was so windy a tree from my neighbor's (?) property got blown over. It took out a power line, and a live wire started setting all the dry leaves and trees (which my yard is surrounded by) on fire. The fire department had to come and everything. They said if my parents hadn't been trying to control the fire, it might've really gotten huge and started burning all of the forest down. But luckily, they put the fire out and we now have our power back. Our poor dogs, whose pen is near the fire, almost got burned.

Knowing that happened is pretty scary to me, because having my house burn down would be just about the worst thing that could ever happen to me. And probably just 45 minutes after I learned about our close call, I heard on TV about a whole group of houses burning down in another city. It was sort of creepy, because the exact same thing could've happened to me. Believe me, the next time our local fire department goes out looking for donations, they're going to have a bunch of money coming from me.
